New-in-Box: Thäter Badger Hair Brush

In 1913, Heinrich L. Thäter founded a small brushmaking workshop in Nuremberg, Germany. At a time when factories were beginning to dominate manufacturing, Thäter remained committed to doing things by hand. Each shaving brush was carefully assembled using traditional techniques, with an emphasis on craftsmanship over production volume.

For the next 110 years, remarkably little changed. While countless grooming brands came and went, Thäter quietly earned a reputation among discerning wet shavers for producing some of the finest handmade shaving brushes in the world. Their Silvertip Badger knots became especially admired for their exceptional softness, density, and ability to create a luxurious lather.

Then, in 2023, after more than a century of craftsmanship, Thäter ceased production. No more brushes would be made. The remaining inventory gradually disappeared from retailers around the world, leaving only the brushes already in collectors' hands and the occasional piece of new old stock.

When we acquired this brush, we searched the major retailers and secondary marketplaces expecting to find others. We couldn't. New Thäter brushes—especially olivewood Silvertip models like this one—have become extraordinarily difficult to locate.

Whether you're a collector of fine shaving tools or simply appreciate craftsmanship that can no longer be replicated, this brush represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of wet shaving history.

Handcrafted from Premium Materials

Olivewood Handle. Made from natural olivewood, each handle has its own distinctive grain and color. It's a hardwood valued for its durability as much as its appearance.

Silvertip Badger Knot. Fitted with a genuine Silberspitz (Silvertip Badger) knot—the highest grade of natural badger hair used in traditional shaving brushes. Soft at the tips with enough backbone to load hard soaps and create dense, consistent lather.

Handcrafted in Germany. Every Thäter brush was individually handcrafted in Nuremberg using techniques refined over generations.

Built to Last. With proper care, a quality shaving brush can provide decades of regular use. Many Thäter brushes made decades ago are still in service today.
